Is PortuStories European Portuguese or Brazilian Portuguese?
European Portuguese only — the Portuguese of Portugal (pt-PT). Every story is written in pt-PT spelling and usage, and the audio is a Portugal voice, not a Brazilian one. If you are learning for Lisbon, Porto, the Algarve or the Azores, this is the variant you want.
What levels are the stories?
Stories are graded A1 to C2 on the CEFR scale and each one shows its level on the card. There are 269 main stories, plus three premium collections: Lendas dos Açores, Clássicas (19th-century Portuguese tales) and Romances Clássicos (classic novels). Start at A1 if you are new; A2 stories add the past tenses.
Does it have audio?
Yes, and audio is free for everyone. Every word and every sentence has a pre-recorded European Portuguese clip: tap a word to hear it, tap a sentence or a paragraph to hear it read. On the website clips stream as you tap; the Android app downloads audio packs so they play offline.
How much can I read for free?
Without an account you can open 3 different main stories. A free account raises that to 25 main stories, keeps your progress and vocabulary, and syncs between the website and the Android app. Rereading a story you have already opened never counts again. Grammar articles, verb tables and the vocabulary topics are free without limit.
What does a subscription cost and what is included?
The monthly subscription is €7.99 per month and opens the whole main library (the collections are sold separately). The annual subscription is €59.99 per year and also includes all three collections — Lendas dos Açores, Clássicas and Romances Clássicos — for as long as it runs. Prices are shown in your local currency at checkout by Stripe (website) or Google Play (Android), and you can cancel at any time from the place you subscribed.
If I subscribe on the website, does it work in the Android app — and the other way round?
Yes. Access belongs to your account, not to the device or the store. Sign in with the same account on the website and in the app and your subscription or collection purchase is recognised in both. Restore Purchases in the app re-checks Google Play if something looks missing.
Who writes the stories and records the audio?
The stories are written for PortuStories with AI assistance and reviewed for European Portuguese spelling and usage. The audio is generated with Google's European Portuguese neural voice (WaveNet), not a human recording. We say so plainly because learners deserve to know what they are listening to.
Can I read offline?
On Android, yes: the stories are part of the app, and once you download an audio pack the audio plays offline too. The website needs a connection.
How do I get help, cancel, or delete my account?
Write to us through the Contact page or the Report a problem button inside any story — messages go straight to the inbox we read. Cancel a website subscription from Manage subscription on your profile page (it opens Stripe's billing portal), or a Google Play subscription from Play Store → Subscriptions. You can delete your account and its data at any time from the Delete account page or from the app's profile.
