European Portuguese Vocabulary Guide
Sport is a major part of Portuguese culture, with football dominating the national conversation. Portugal also excels in cycling, athletics, and surfing. The country hosts the Nazaré big wave surf contest, drawing surfers from around the world.
Remember: in PT-PT it is desporto (not esporte). And you praticar or fazer a sport, though jogar is also used for team sports: jogar futebol.
Este fim de semana vou ver o jogo no estádio — o Benfica joga em casa.
This weekend I am going to watch the match at the stadium — Benfica are playing at home.
