European Portuguese Vocabulary Guide
Family is central to Portuguese culture. It is common for extended families to gather for Sunday lunch, and ties between generations remain strong. Knowing how to talk about family will come up in almost every introductory conversation.
Note that os pais (parents) is the plural of pai (father), not mãe. When you want to say both parents, always use os pais.
Ao domingo, a família toda se junta para almoçar.
On Sundays the whole family gets together for lunch.
