Clara Vem a Sintra

Clara vive em Lisboa mas a avó vive em Sintra. Todos os meses, Clara vem visitar a avó. Vem de comboio — parte da estação do Rossio e chega a Sintra em quarenta minutos. Hoje é sábado e Clara está pronta. "Vens comigo?", pergunta ao namorado, Tiago. "Não posso", diz ele. "Vou ao futebol." Clara vem sozinha.

Clara lives in Lisbon but her grandmother lives in Sintra. Every month, Clara comes to visit her grandmother. She comes by train — she leaves from Rossio station and arrives in Sintra in forty minutes. Today is Saturday and Clara is ready. "Are you coming with me?" she asks her boyfriend, Tiago. "I can't," he says. "I'm going to football." Clara comes alone.

O comboio chega a Sintra. Clara sai da estação e vem a pé até à casa da avó — uma casa pequena com um jardim cheio de flores. A avó vem à porta quando ouve os passos. "Clara! Que bom que vieste!" "Venho sempre, avó. Tens saudades minhas?" A avó ri. "Tenho sempre."

The train arrives in Sintra. Clara leaves the station and comes on foot to her grandmother's house — a small house with a garden full of flowers. Her grandmother comes to the door when she hears the footsteps. "Clara! How lovely that you came!" "I always come, grandmother. Do you miss me?" Her grandmother laughs. "Always."

As duas almoçam juntas. Depois do café, a avó diz: "Amanhã vêm os teus primos." "Todos?!" "Todos. Vêm de Coimbra. Vêm de propósito para te ver." Clara sorri. Toda a família vem a Sintra quando pode. A casa da avó é assim — toda a gente quer vir.

The two of them have lunch together. After coffee, her grandmother says: "Tomorrow your cousins are coming." "All of them?!" "All of them. They're coming from Coimbra. They're coming on purpose to see you." Clara smiles. The whole family comes to Sintra when they can. That's what her grandmother's house is like — everyone wants to come.
