The rain fell persistently on Porto's pavement, giving the city that gray and nostalgic tone that invites introspection. Helena decided to take refuge in the Lello Bookstore, one of the most emblematic and beautiful places in the world. Upon entering, she was immediately amazed by the red staircase and the colored stained-glass windows that filtered the afternoon light. However, her goal was not just to admire the neo-Gothic architecture. She was looking for a specific edition of poems that her mother used to read. As she wandered through the dark wood shelves, she felt someone watching her. Turning around, it took her a few seconds to recognize the face of the man standing by the classical literature section.
It was André, a childhood friend she hadn't seen in almost twenty years. Although time had left its marks — some expression lines and a more mature look — it was impossible not to recognize that shy smile. 'Helena? Is it really you?' he asked, his voice heavy with surprise. She smiled, feeling a wave of memories wash over her. Recognizing someone from the past in such a magical place felt like a stroke of fate. They had grown up on the same street, shared books and dreams, until life choices had led them down opposite paths. André had become a translator and now lived between Lisbon and Porto.
