De manhã, Pedro entra no café e diz "Bom dia!" ao senhor Carlos, o dono. "Bom dia! Como está?" responde o Carlos com um sorriso. "Estou bem, obrigado. E o senhor?" "Não me posso queixar!" Em Portugal, cumprimentar as pessoas é muito importante.
In the morning, Pedro enters the café and says "Good morning!" to Mr Carlos, the owner. "Good morning! How are you?" Carlos replies with a smile. "I'm well, thank you. And you, sir?" "Can't complain!" In Portugal, greeting people is very important.
À tarde, Pedro encontra a sua colega Sofia. "Boa tarde, Sofia!" "Boa tarde! Tudo bem?" "Tudo ótimo, obrigado!" Em Portugal, usamos "bom dia" de manhã, "boa tarde" à tarde e "boa noite" à noite.
In the afternoon, Pedro meets his colleague Sofia. "Good afternoon, Sofia!" "Good afternoon! All good?" "Everything's great, thanks!" In Portugal, we use "bom dia" in the morning, "boa tarde" in the afternoon and "boa noite" in the evening.
Quando Pedro sai do café, diz "Até logo!" ao Carlos. "Até amanhã, Pedro!" responde o Carlos. Pedro aprende rápido. Saber cumprimentar as pessoas é o início de qualquer conversa em português.
When Pedro leaves the café, he says "See you later!" to Carlos. "See you tomorrow, Pedro!" Carlos replies. Pedro learns quickly. Knowing how to greet people is the start of any conversation in Portuguese.
