Francisca tem catorze anos e gosta de fotografia. Num grupo online de fotografia, começa a falar com uma rapariga chamada Bia. "Olá! Falo português mas moro no Brasil. E tu?" "Falo português europeu e moro em Lisboa." As duas falam todos os dias.
Francisca is fourteen and likes photography. In an online photography group, she starts talking with a girl called Bia. "Hello! I speak Portuguese but I live in Brazil. And you?" "I speak European Portuguese and I live in Lisbon." The two talk every day.
"Notas diferenças no português?" pergunta Francisca. "Sim! Vocês falam mais devagar e usam palavras diferentes. Nós dizemos 'ônibus', vocês dizem 'autocarro'." Francisca ri: "E vocês dizem 'celular', nós dizemos 'telemóvel'. São duas versões da mesma língua!"
"Do you notice differences in the Portuguese?" asks Francisca. "Yes! You speak more slowly and use different words. We say 'ônibus', you say 'autocarro'." Francisca laughs: "And you say 'celular', we say 'telemóvel'. They're two versions of the same language!"
