Outros acreditam que a influência vem dos ritmos trazidos de África e do Brasil através das trocas culturais do império. No início do século XIX, o fado era a música das tabernas, dos marinheiros e das pessoas simples. Não era algo que se ouvia nos salões da nobreza.
