That Sunday, the sky over Lisbon was completely blue. Ricardo got everything ready for a picnic in Sintra: cheese sandwiches, a chocolate cake, a bottle of juice and a red checked blanket. His girlfriend, Rita, wanted to take an umbrella. — There's no need. Nobody's getting wet today. Sunshine until eight in the evening — he said. The night before, Ricardo hadn't watched the weather forecast on television. He didn't need to.

Apanharam o comboio no Rossio.

They caught the train at Rossio. During the journey, a lady with a dog on her lap kept looking at Ricardo. She seemed to know him from somewhere. He put on his sunglasses and looked out of the window. In Sintra, they walked up to the park. Above the trees, you could see the yellow and red palace, shining in the sun. They spread the blanket under an enormous tree and opened the basket. Ten minutes later, the palace disappeared into the fog.
