No mapa, parecia fácil.

Sophie had a free afternoon and a guide to Lisbon with a map of Alfama. She wanted to go to the Portas do Sol viewpoint, to see the river from up there. On the map, it looked easy. But on the map the streets were straight, and in Alfama no street was straight. There were steps, lanes, arches and washing hanging at every window. Within ten minutes, Sophie was lost. Her phone was no help either: according to the GPS, Sophie was in the middle of the river.

— perguntou a Sophie. O cão olhou para ela e abanou a cauda.

Three times she passed the same blue door and the same yellow bird, in a cage at a window. Three times she passed the same lady, who was hanging out sheets on a balcony. The third time, she sat down on a step, tired. A small brown dog, with a black patch around one eye, sat down beside her. There was no owner anywhere nearby. — Are you lost too? — asked Sophie. The dog looked at her and wagged his tail.
