Miguel acorda cedo todas as manhãs.
Miguel wakes up early every morning. He lives in a small apartment in Lisbon, near Parque Eduardo VII. Right after getting up, he goes to the kitchen and drinks a large glass of water. His mother always said that drinking water in the morning is very healthy. Miguel believes this and never forgets his daily ritual.
After drinking water, Miguel prepares breakfast. He makes toast with butter and cuts an orange. While he eats, he drinks a white coffee. The coffee is hot and has a wonderful smell. Miguel drinks the coffee slowly, sitting by the window looking at the street.
His friend Pedro calls at eight o'clock. "Miguel, will you come to the café with me? I want to drink a galão before work," says Pedro. "I already drank my coffee at home, but I can go drink a juice with you," Miguel replies. The two friends arrange to meet at Pastelaria Central at half past eight.
A Pastelaria Central fica a cinco minutos a pé. O empregado sorri e vai buscar as bebidas.
Pastelaria Central is five minutes on foot. When Miguel arrives, Pedro is already sitting at a table. The waiter comes straight away to ask what they want to drink. "A galão, please," says Pedro. "And I'd like a fresh orange juice," says Miguel. The waiter smiles and goes to get the drinks.
While they drink, the two friends talk about work. Pedro works at a bank and Miguel is an English teacher. "You drink too much coffee, Pedro. Is this your fifth coffee today?" asks Miguel. "No! Only the third," Pedro replies, laughing. "You should drink more water, like me," says Miguel with a smile.
— pergunta o empregado, surpreendido. — Não pedi, mas obrigado! Adoro beber água — diz Miguel, muito satisfeito. Pedro ri e bebe o seu galão quente.
Miguel's orange juice is delicious. He drinks half of it in one go. The waiter also brings a glass of water for each of them. "Did you order water, sir?" asks the waiter, surprised. "I didn't order it, but thank you! I love drinking water," says Miguel, very pleased. Pedro laughs and drinks his warm galão.
At nine o'clock, the two friends pay and leave the pastry shop. Miguel walks to the school where he works. On the way, he stops at a fountain and drinks a little fresh water. He thinks it is very good to live in Lisbon, where there are fountains in many places.
At school, the students arrive at half past nine. Before classes begin, Miguel drinks another glass of water. A student called António asks: "Teacher, why do you drink so much water?" "Because it is very healthy, António. Our bodies need to drink water every day," Miguel explains.
During the lesson, Miguel teaches students to say drink words in English. "Water, juice, milk, coffee, tea," the students repeat. António raises his hand: "Teacher, what do you drink more at home, coffee or tea?" "I drink more water than coffee or tea," Miguel replies, and everyone laughs.
At midday, Miguel has lunch in the school canteen. He drinks a glass of water with the meal and then drinks an apple juice. The other teachers drink wine or fizzy drinks, but Miguel always prefers water or fresh juice. He feels well and very energetic throughout the afternoon.
In the afternoon, Miguel sends a message to Pedro: "Today I drank eight glasses of water! Can you beat my record?" Pedro replies: "I drank three coffees, a galão and two glasses of water. I think you win!" Miguel laughs and drinks his ninth glass of water of the day, happy with his good habits.
In the evening, before sleeping, Miguel drinks a glass of warm milk. It is his usual ritual. He thinks he drank very well today: water, juice, coffee and milk. Tomorrow he will drink even more water. Miguel falls asleep happy, ready for another healthy day in Lisbon.
