O Caderno Azul

Tomás tem doze anos e vive em Lisboa. Um sábado de manhã, ele vai com a mãe a uma feira da ladra. Entre as muitas coisas velhas, vê um caderno azul com capa de couro. Custa cinquenta cêntimos.

Tomás is twelve years old and lives in Lisbon. One Saturday morning, he goes with his mother to a flea market. Among the many old things, he sees a blue notebook with a leather cover. It costs fifty cents.

Tomás compra o caderno. Em casa, abre-o e vê que está vazio. Pega num lápis e escreve o seu nome na primeira página. Depois, escreve uma frase sobre o seu cão: "O Bobi é o melhor cão do mundo."

Tomás buys the notebook. At home, he opens it and sees that it is empty. He picks up a pencil and writes his name on the first page. Then he writes a sentence about his dog: "Bobi is the best dog in the world."

Todos os dias, Tomás escreve mais um pouco. Escreve sobre a escola, sobre os amigos e sobre os seus sonhos. Um mês depois, o caderno está cheio. A professora lê algumas frases e diz: "Tomás, tens um talento especial para escrever."

Every day, Tomás writes a little more. He writes about school, about his friends and about his dreams. A month later, the notebook is full. His teacher reads some sentences and says: "Tomás, you have a special talent for writing."

No sábado seguinte, Tomás volta à feira. Desta vez, compra um caderno verde. Sorri e pensa: "Este é só o começo."

The following Saturday, Tomás goes back to the market. This time, he buys a green notebook. He smiles and thinks: "This is just the beginning."
