A Fuga

Miguel tem dez anos. Na terça-feira de tarde, corre para casa porque está a chover muito. Perto da padaria, vê um homem a correr muito depressa. O homem deixa cair um saco e não para. Miguel apanha o saco.

Miguel is ten years old. On Tuesday afternoon, he runs home because it is raining heavily. Near the bakery, he sees a man running very fast. The man drops a bag and does not stop. Miguel picks up the bag.

Miguel abre o saco. Dentro está um envelope com muito dinheiro. Ele fica com medo. Pensa: "Este dinheiro não é meu. Tenho de ir à polícia."

Miguel opens the bag. Inside is an envelope with a lot of money. He becomes afraid. He thinks: "This money is not mine. I have to go to the police."

Miguel corre até à esquadra. Um agente abre a porta. "O que aconteceu?" pergunta o agente. Miguel conta tudo. O agente sorri. "Muito bem, Miguel. És corajoso."

Miguel runs to the police station. An officer opens the door. "What happened?" asks the officer. Miguel tells him everything. The officer smiles. "Well done, Miguel. You are brave."

Uma semana depois, vem uma carta para Miguel. O saco pertencia a uma senhora que foi roubada. Miguel devolveu o dinheiro. A câmara municipal dá-lhe um diploma de cidadão exemplar. A mãe de Miguel chora de orgulho.

A week later, a letter arrives for Miguel. The bag belonged to a woman who had been robbed. Miguel returned the money. The town hall gives him a certificate of exemplary citizen. Miguel's mother cries with pride.
