Work and business stories in European Portuguese

24 stories from A1 to C1

Stories about working life in Portugal: two neighbours in a lift talking about their jobs, a radio presenter who says a lot more on air than at home, opening a first café, a job offer in London that means leaving Portugal, a summer job in a café on the Ribeira in Porto.

The B2 and C1 stories bring in the formal Portuguese of meetings, reports and agreements: a start-up in Braga, a negotiation with a German company, a young duty lawyer in Setúbal defending a client everyone believes is guilty, and a contract that failed because each side assumed something different about it. That makes the genre useful if you work in Portugal or with Portuguese colleagues.

Start with Onde Trabalhas? at A1 and then read its A2 retelling in the past, A Conversa no Elevador, to see trabalha become trabalhava and trabalhou. The genre has stories at every level from A1 to C1.

Each story page shows the opening in Portuguese with the English under every paragraph, and a glossary of key words. The whole story is in the reader, with audio for every sentence and tap-to-translate on every word.
